SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY

Tuesday, October 22, 2019 DAY 1

Our third Varsity Boys Hockey Tryout is tonight at 3 – 4 pm. Please let a coach know if you are unable to attend.

Coffee House is scheduled for Thursday, November 21 and signups for volunteers and performers are posted on the Student Lounge windows. Anyone interested in helping out or showcasing their talents is encouraged to sign up. Auditions will be held on October 29 and 30.

Last week the Cross Country team travelled to Petawawa to compete at the County Championships. In the Jr. Girls category Emma Sheahan finished in 17th place and Hannah Cameron finished in 27th. In the Junior boys division Spency Cat Hoffmann finished a season high 17th place. The Senior Boys team finished 4th overall in the county, as a team, led by a 10th place finish by Adam McCuaig, a 12th by Chris Chirico, a 16th by Chris Cayen, a 24th by Griffin Mulvihill, a 25th Ben Searson and a 42nd by Mikulas Horvath. Congrats and Good luck on Thursday at the EOSSAA Championships.

The annual Fireside Catholic Publishing Essay Contest is underway.  Entries are eligible for winning one of five $1000 prizes. Submissions are due by Monday, December 9th.  Please see Mr. Dedo in the Chaplaincy Office for more information.  

Jack-o-grams will be on sale today in the spirit spot.  For only $2 you can buy your friends or favourite staff member a little treat!

It’s not too late to bring in your loonie or toonie for CPAN.  Turkey Bowl, grade 8 Flag Football team against the Teachers will take place tomorrow afternoon.  Modified schedule. Please consult staff Google Classroom.

A reminder to all grade 9s that your take your kid to work forms are due back as soon as possible.  Please bring them to student services or give them to your period 4 teacher.

For all students that have ordered an SJHS shirt, they will be here by the first week of November.  We know you are excited but thank you for your patience.

Games club:  Please have your Diplomacy moves in to Mr. Retty’s Pink folder by lunch.  And the Games club will have its regular meeting in 302. Be there or be square!!

Interested in participating in a pumpkin decorating contest to win some fun prizes? Join us in the art room this Thursday at lunch.  There will also be art club after school this Thursday. All are welcome!

Monday, October 21, 2019 DAY 2

A reminder of the Varsity Boys Hockey tryout tonight at Ma-te-way from 3 – 4:20 pm. Also, our third tryout is tomorrow from 3 – 4 pm. Late taxis are available.

A Reminder for all Students – please ensure that you are completing and submitting all major assessments to your teachers by their arranged deadlines.  If you are having difficulty meeting these deadlines, please take advantage of the opportunities in the Study Hall, advocate for yourself with your teaches and develop a strategy, or come to 113 and ask Mr O’Connor to speak with your teachers for you.  Report card season is fast approaching, so having all major assessments turned in will allow your teachers to accurately evaluate your midterm progress.

The junior girls travelled to Kingston this weekend and faced some very good teams.  They played St. Marys, RND and La Salle. They left the tourney with a lot of experience and very tired legs.  Great job girls. No practice tonight.

The Senior girls basketball team also traveled to Kingston this weekend to play in a tournament. The girls faced some strong competitors and were able to develop their skills which will be essential in their game against Bishop Smith tomorrow. No practice tonight; rest up for our home game tomorrow after school. 

The Improv team practice is cancelled after school today. We will meet at lunch today in Room 322 for a very important meeting.

In Boys Volleyball News:

1] Grade 8 practice today at lunch.

2] After their long and hard fought match Thursday night, the Senior Boys were off to Ottawa for a two day tournament with lots of competitive action to be seen. The boys played extremely well on Friday earning 2nd spot in their division with a 6 and 2 record. They entered the power pool ranking section and placed 1st in their division by earning a 5 and 1 record. Unfortunately, the boys were becoming exhausted and eventually lost to Franco Cite – a sport specific high school.

Great work to everyone. Practice Tuesday and Wednesday morning before the big match up Thursday in the Jag Den against cross town rivals RCI.

3] The junior jags host Fellowes High School in the Jag Den at 3 pm. Come show your support for another amazing team at St. Joe’s.

Friday October 18th DAY 1

Games club:  The diplomacy moves can be handed in tomorrow at lunch hour in room 302.

Members of the Dominican Republic Team are asked to come to the Chaplaincy Office for a brief meeting after announcements today.  

The junior girls lost a tough match last night 40-20 against Opeongo.  They were able to take advantage of second chance points and put on a tough press.  We will regroup as we head to Kingston for a big tournament this weekend. Please excuse the girls at 10:30 today for departure.

The senior girls also lost a tough match to Opeongo last night. The Senior team will be traveling to Kingston today to compete in a tournament. Please excuse the girls at 8:30am.

Students who have paid their Student Activity Fee can see Miss Yutronkie to pick up their Student Card in the Office.  Also, any students who had ordered School Photos online can also pick up their photos in Miss Yutronkie’s Office.  

There will be a brief meeting for the Grade 8 Cross country team immediately following announcements in room 113.

And thanks again to everyone who supported the Chili Cook-Off by bringing in a pot of chili or coming out and tasting them.   First place went to Mr. Lennox, second place to Jesse Huot and 3rd place to Mme Schneider.  

Jazz Band is reminded to turn in their fundraising tickets today as the draw begins tomorrow.
